*McKenna Resigns as ATA Leader

Gordon McKenna resigned yesterday as chairman of the American Teleservices Association, Washington, and stepped down from its board of directors. A press release issued last evening from the ATA said McKenna has decided to devote more time to his new company, Customer Satisfaction First.

In December, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote a story about McKenna and problems at his former company TeleQuest Inc., Arlington, TX, saying McKenna had mismanaged funds. TeleQuest filed for bankruptcy on June 6. ATA spokesman Kevin Brosnahan had told DM News that the situation would not affect McKenna's status with the ATA. Calls to the ATA's office last night went unanswered.

"Starting a new company requires a huge time commitment, and we understand why Gordon chose to resign," ATA executive director Jason Clawson said in a statement.

Vice chairman Tim Searcy, president/CEO of Optima Direct, will act as chairman. On Feb. 3, the ATA board will meet to confirm Searcy and elect a new vice chairman.
