The cost of business-to-business e-mail lists remains the highest of all files despite continued decreases in prices over the past year, according to an index released by Worldata, Boca Raton, FL. The index shows permission-based BTB e-mail lists as costliest, with an average base of $277/M in March 2006, down $3/M from the $274/M average in March 2005.

The Worldata Spring 2006 List Price Index covers March 2005 to March 2006. It is grouped into list categories and compares costs per thousand names for the 12-month period.

The second-highest-priced category belonged to newsletters at $178/M in March 2006, up $3/M from $175/M in March 2005. Permission-based business-to-consumer e-mail lists had an average price of $163/M in March 2006, down $4/M from an average of $167/M in March 2005.

Lists in the public sector category had the largest increase with a jump $4/M to $140/M from $136/M. Public sector lists include government and education-related files. The lowest-priced list category remains donor files, which have averaged $79/M, which was a rise of $3/M over last year. Before this increase the price had been static at $76/M for the last three years.
