Travelocity, MasterCard Form Alliance

Travelocity and MasterCard International Inc. formed a marketing alliance yesterday that will make the credit company the preferred payment brand on the travel company's Web site.

MasterCard International, Purchase, NY, and Travelocity, Fort Worth, TX, also jointly launched a co-branded Getaway Sweepstakes. MasterCard members who make a purchase on Travelocity by March 31 will be entered into the sweepstakes, in which vacation awards to Europe, Hawaii or the Caribbean will be granted to five winners.

The announcement of the co-branded sweepstakes came nearly two weeks after Travelocity issued formal apologies to 15,000 individuals for inadvertently placing their personal information on a link on its Web site. No credit card information was exposed, however.

Travelocity and MasterCard International said that as part of the agreement, the companies would promote each other's Web site. The companies also said they plan to encourage users -- through a series of unannounced promotions -- to use MasterCard while visiting Travelocity.

Also, the companies plan to launch a co-branded credit card, the Travelocity World MasterCard.
