The "most impressive insert" award goes to...

The nice people over at Niche Media occasionally send me copies of Trump Magazine, even though I am not anywhere close to meeting their stringent circulation qualifications. And, boy, they must be serving the elite because today, polybagged with the latest issue of Trump, I found the most extreme insert I've ever seen.

It was a catalog. A pink-covered, glossy, embossed-cover catalog -- for DIAMONDS. These people are not messing around. In fact, close to 80 thick shiny pages were covered in photos of diamonds and their happy wearers (taken by none other than noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker).

The company behind the insert is Leviev. Not being a diamond connoisseur myself, I'm not familiar with the name, but I trust them when they call themselves "the leading name in luxury diamond jewelry." It's a very impressive piece -- not what I usually find in my monthly glossies -- and it's especially nice to see right now. I know conspicuous consumption is "out" (for good reason), but I'm happy to see a company spending on nice, printed advertising that aligns with a magazine brand and fits its readers.
