Seminar Covers 'Consumer Rage' Issues of Telemarketing, Spam

Coping with consumer marketing rage will be the topic of a daylong seminar May 7 in New York presented by the U.S. Postal Service and Customer Growth Partnership.


Presenters will discuss the effects of the national no-call registry and the CAN-SPAM Act. They include: Priscilla Manley of the USPS; Marijo Puleo, Peppers & Rogers Group; Linda Goldstein, Manatt Phelps & Phillips; Jim Conway, Direct Marketing Association; Robert McKim and Dan Goldstein, Privacy Research & Consulting; William Corke, Harvest Digital Marketing, UK; and Peter Blau, Josh Moritz and David Klang of Customer Growth Inc.


"We're going to see new regulations relating to identity theft affecting credit bureaus and anyone who uses them, like banks and credit card issuers," said Blau, founder of Customer Growth Partnership, Westport, CT.


Presenters also will advise on:


* Reorienting your marketing strategy, including ways to get customers to call and e-mail you when you are not allowed to contact them.


* How to meet consumer privacy expectations over and above complying with the law.


* New technologies, including "E-Mailer ID" designed to thwart anonymous spamming.


* The economic effect on marketing services as a whole and on specific sectors such as telemarketing, Internet advertising and direct mail.
