David Smith has been named executive creative director at Carton Donofrio Partners. He most recently co-founded and served as executive creative director at boutique agency The Republik. He has also served as group creative director at JWT.

Media agency mediaedge.cia has made three senior level promotions. Mel Varley, former CEO, EMEA, has been named global chief strategy officer. Caroline Foster Kenny has been promoted from chief client officer, EMEA, to global chief client officer. Current global COO Alastair Aird will retain his role and take on duties as chairman of EMEA.

Catalyst:SF has named Shannon Light senior director of account strategy for the Del Monte Foods account, picked up by Catalyst in April. She joins the agency from Universal McCann San Francisco, where she led digital media efforts for Microsoft Bing, Windows Live Messenger, and MSN.com.

Todd Taplin, former Yahoo VP of sales for New England and Canada, has been appointed chief revenue officer of online technology services firm Collective Media.
