John Thomson (Tom) Wyatt, president of Gap Inc.'s Old Navy brand, resigned his position in order to become CEO of Portland-based global education company Knowledge Universe–U.S., said John Fread, director of PR at Knowledge Universe.

Wyatt will begin his new job on Feb. 3, according to a Gap Inc. statement.

While Gap Inc. conducts a formal search to replace Wyatt, his shoes will be filled by two Gap Inc. executives, according to the statement: Nancy Green, EVP and chief creative officer for Old Navy; and Tom Sands, EVP of stores and operations for Old Navy. Both will report directly to Glenn Murphy, chairman and CEO of Gap, Inc.

In his new role, Wyatt will be in charge of all the businesses under the Knowledge Universe umbrella, including childcare and education provider KinderCare, which is “by far the biggest,” said Fread. Other companies in the Knowledge Universe family include Champions, Knowledge Beginnings, Cambridge Schools and The Grove Schools brand.

Knowledge Universe conducted a “global search” that was “in-depth and covered all points” before selecting Wyatt, who was “by far the most perfect fit,” Fread said.

Wyatt joined Gap in 2006 as Gap Body president before being appointed as president of Old Navy in 2008. Prior to joining Gap, he served as president and CEO of Cutter and Buck; president of Warnaco's Intimate Apparel Group; EVP of strategic planning at Saks and president of Vanity Fair Intimates.
