Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) New York has named Calle Sjoenell chief creative officer, said Toni Lee, director of PR at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide. Sjoenell will report to O&M North American chief creative officer Steve Simpson.

Sjoenell will replace Lars Bastholm, who resigned the post in May. Sjoenell most recently served as deputy chief creative officer at BBH. Prior to BBH he served as group creative director at Fallon. "Calle is a modern talent," said Simpson, in a statement. "We at Ogilvy have tremendous respect for his work, not just because of its technical virtuosity, but because he builds powerful brand stories.

Bastholm left O&M in May of last year. Bastholm joined Cheil USA as chief creative officer on January 2.

Ogilvy hired Calle to fill the role because of his “many creative achievements as well as his ability to help grow both brands and creative talent,” according to the statement.

He will work closely with Alfonso Marian, chief creative officer at OgilvyOne. Marian joined the company in July after seven years at Shackleton, Madrid.

OgilvyOne New York chief creative officer Mat Zucker resigned his position with the company in January. His duties were absorbed by Marian, who had served as chief creative officer alongside Zucker.

Zucker serves on the executive committee of the Direct Marketing News-owned John Caples International Awards.

O&M would not provide additional comment.
