MatchLogic Named in Profiling Suit

MatchLogic Inc., Westminster, CO, was named this week in a class-action lawsuit in Denver's U.S. District Court brought by users who allege that the online advertiser violated their privacy by tracking their online browsing behavior.


MatchLogic claims to maintain 74 million anonymous user profiles to help advertisers target prospects.


MatchLogic is owned by Excite@Home, Redwood City, CA. A representative of Excite@Home declined to comment except to say that it had not been named as a defendant in the suit.


The suit, which was filed on behalf of five plaintiffs in four states in conjunction with several law firms, states that MatchLogic collects and uses personal information about consumers without their knowledge using cookies.


According to reports, the lawsuit said the plaintiffs "have been subjected to repeated and unauthorized invasions of their privacy -- violations which continue to this day."


Reportedly, plaintiffs want MatchLogic to tell consumers what information it has collected, purge all confidential information and forfeit profit made through data collection.
