Lowell Paxson is DMD Marketer of the Year

Lowell "Bud" Paxson, chairman/CEO of Paxson Communications Corp., was named "Marketer of the Year" at a luncheon yesterday at the DMD New York Conference & Expo here.

"I want to thank you so much for the award because it's not posthumously," said the creator of the Home Shopping Network and Pax TV.

Keeping his acceptance speech short, Paxson acknowledged his role in the home shopping industry's growth to a multi-billion business nationwide.

On a lighter note, Paxson recounted a joke about a direct marketer: A DM executive goes home to his wife. He laments that media and creative are not working.

"It doesn't look good for the future," the direct marketer told his wife. "If we're poor, will you still love me?"

"Yes, I'll still love you," his wife replied. "I'll miss you."
