IL Governor Vetoes DNC list

Share this content:
Illinois Gov. George Ryan has vetoed a do-not-call list bill.

The Republican governor said that though consumers disliked telemarketing calls, the proposal as worded by the state Legislature contained too many exemptions to curtail the problem, according to his spokesman, Ray Serati.

The state Legislature passed the DNC list bill in June. Among the exemptions were telecommunications providers, to whom the DNC list would not apply until the state determined that telecommunications service was competitive in Illinois.

The bill also exempted calls made by or on behalf of people in state-licensed occupations for appointment-making purposes and for encouraging sales that cannot be completed over the phone.
