FTC Bans, Fines Job Guide Marketer

Vocational Guides Inc. and its president, Timothy Scott Jackson, are permanently banned from promoting or selling employment services after a settlement yesterday with the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC, which also fined VGI $191,600, claims the company placed false ads for U.S. Postal Service job openings in local newspapers nationwide.

When consumers called, they were led to believe that the USPS had endorsed VGI, Nashville, TN, and were offered a packet of materials about the jobs for an undisclosed amount of money. The materials were supposed to help the consumers do well on postal examinations.
