DNC Requests Flood Indiana Call Center

The call center firm hired to take consumers' telephone requests to be placed on Indiana's new do-not-call list has had a difficult time keeping up with the flood of calls, according to reports.

Since list registration began July 1, more than 115,000 Indiana consumers have signed up for the list. CallNet, the teleservices firm hired to handle telephone registration for the list, took as many as 15,000 phone calls in one five-day period, according to reports.

The center can handle 39 calls at a time. Some consumers reported not being able to reach the call center despite repeated calls.

CallNet, Bloomington, IN, which was paid $130,000 to answer the calls, is urging consumers to keep trying, promising that they eventually will get through.

Indiana's DNC list takes effect Jan. 1.
