DMD Makes Encouraging Debut at Javits

NEW YORK -- Attendees and exhibitors seemed pleased with the first day of the DMD New York Marketing Conference at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here yesterday.

"I like it here much better than the Hilton," said exhibitor John Papalia, president of Statlistics. "We've had some good traffic at our booth -- even during the luncheon," which featured former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

Though the location isn't as good as the Hilton, Papalia said, the venue is better. This year, the entire exhibit space is on one floor instead of three.

One attendee thinking of exhibiting next year will base that decision on how things go at this year's show, which runs through Wednesday.

"From the caliber of people we know are here, it looks like it's going to be a good show," said Lara Gold, vice president of business development at Alvion Technologies. "I'm not relying on booth traffic to make my return on investment for being here."

A first-year exhibitor predicted that the traffic would get even better as the conference progressed.

"Monday is probably the slowest of the three days," said Joni Slavit, account executive at Mail-Well.

Even so, Slavit said, there was a nice steady flow of traffic throughout the day.
