DMA Names Sherman Chairman

The Direct Marketing Association's board of directors has named Michael P. Sherman, president of Fingerhut Cos. Inc., to serve as the 2002 chairman of the international trade organization.


Sherman is vice chairman of the DMA board. He replaces Charles D. Morgan, company leader, Acxiom Corp.


The board also announced that Gordon R. Cooke, president/CEO of the J. Jill Group Inc. will serve as the vice chairman.


Their terms of office began this week after the DMA's 84th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago.


The board also elected G.M. O'Connell, chairman of Modem Media, treasurer and Jan Brandt, vice chairman/chief marketing officer of AOL Time Warner, secretary.


Seven new members will serve on the board for three-year terms:


-- Christopher J. Cleghorn, executive vice president of direct and interactive marketing of Easter Seals.


-- Patrick J. Connolly, executive vice president/chief marketing officer of Williams-Sonoma Inc.


-- Arthur W. Conway, president of DialAmerica Marketing Inc.


-- Steven J. Freiberg, president/CEO of North America Citi/Cards, Citigroup.


-- George D. Ittner, president/CEO, Newport News Inc.


-- Jere Brooks King, vice president of worldwide marketing communications at Cisco Systems Inc.


-- Stephen M. Lacey, president of the publishing group, Meredith Corp.
