Canada Seeks Comments on DNC Rules

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission released a public notice yesterday asking for input on the development and operation of a national do-not-call list and on telemarketing rules.

Last fall, Canada authorized the CRTC to establish the list, select a third-party administrator and to levy administrative monetary penalties.

The commission will have a public proceeding to address several issues, including what the specific no-call rules should be and which, if any, of the existing telemarketing rules will still be necessary and appropriate.

Anyone interested in commenting must let the commission know by March 6. A public consultation will be held in Quebec on May 2-5.

A consortium will be created to select an administrator for the list. Its first meeting will take place March 21
