"Big Data is the world's natural resource for the next century" - IBM CEO Ginni Rometty

IBM CEO Ginni Rometty appeared on CNBC last night to talk about the company's big shift towards cloud computing and Big Data.

"The convergence of cloud, data, mobile and engagement - those are shifts that will reorder the industry and we will lead it from the enterprise perspective," said Rometty.

Rometty was bullish on IBM's Big Data capabilities, revealing the company's $30 billion investment, and acquisition of nearly 30 companies in the space. She said the IBM's Big Data business had generated $16 billion in revenue last year, growing 9% over the previous year.

Rometty called Big Data the "World's natural resource for the next century," in that it needs to be refined in order to be useful. This gives a good indication of where IBM is going to focus when it comes to building out its integrated marketing cloud. Analytics are also going to be at the core of IBM's digital agency business which recently received a massive $100 million investment.
