BET.com debuted an Owning a Home channel yesterday in conjunction with Fannie Mae, Cendant Mortgage and HomeSide Lending.

The channel gives the home-buyer-focused companies an online venue to reach the African-American market.

The channel will provide information for first-time buyers as well as current homeowners. Visitors also will be able to apply for a mortgage loan online or via telephone.

"The enhanced channel on BET.com ensures that an abundance of home-mortgage information and products is readily available to many African-Americans, so that they can easily apply for a loan and receive a decision in as little as 10 minutes with no upfront costs," said Kevin D. Race, president/CEO of HomeSide, Jacksonville, FL.

Fannie Mae, Washington, which provides most of the content for the channel, is providing a calculator service that allows users to estimate home-buying costs.

BET.com, an online property of BET Interactive, which is owned by Black Entertainment Television, is promoting the new channel with television commercials on its network, through national radio spots in urban markets and in print advertising in African-American publications.
