Bank One Launches E-Mail Money Transfers

Bank One Corp., New York, said yesterday it launched a system that will allow people to send money to one another via e-mail. The system can be used with checking accounts, checks, Visa credit cards or debit cards.

The program will work through the eMoneyMail Web site, www.emoneymail.com. At the site people enter their checking account or Visa card numbers and then send e-mail transfers up to $500 to the recipient's checking account or Visa balance. The recipient also can opt for a check to be sent in the mail.

People who send money via e-mail will pay a $1 transfer fee, and a $1 fee will be added when a check is mailed. Money will be credited on the next business day.

Though Bank One is behind the eMoneyMail site, users can transfer money to and from any bank account in the United States. The system is currently unavailable for international transfers, though Bank One said it is looking into expanding the program.
