AT&T Teleservices Staff Takes Calls in 'Concert for NYC'

AT&T's teleservices professionals coordinated inbound phone traffic generated Saturday night by "The Concert for New York City," a five-hour telethon to raise money for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

About 2,000 AT&T employees volunteered to staff phones at 11 call centers during the telethon, which was shown on the VH1 network. In addition, several AT&T business partners donated several dozen more call centers for the show, which reached 80 million U.S. homes.

Incuding its own facilities and those contributed by its partners, A&T managed more than 40 call centers during the telethon, which generated 100,000 calls total. AT&T handled more than 50 percent of those calls.

The amount of donations generated by the telethon was not immediately available yesterday. Proceeds from the telethon benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which will distribute donations to charities assisting the families of victims.

AT&T also participated in the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" fundraising telethon following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. About 2,000 AT&T employees volunteered, and eight call centers participated.
