Army Uses Phone Campaign

The Western Pennsylvania Division of the Salvation Army began a telemarketing campaign last month to raise money for the Allegheny County Salvation Army's Family Crisis Center, the only one in the area that provides housing for entire families. The program will be contacting people in 28 counties with donations toward the 1998 Christmas Campaign.


"We are calling some of our past donors," said Lt. Colonel Joseph DeMichael, divisional commander of the Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania division. "While our more traditional wide-range means of fundraising are done through the mail and kettles, the telephone is quite effective with selected donors."


The Salvation Army isn't asking for credit card numbers over the telephone. Once a donor has made a commitment to make a donation, he will be sent a thank-you letter and pledge card, he then will be able to make a donation by check. The Salvation Army serves one in 10 residents of Allegheny County.
