List marketing and lead generation firm Marketfish has named David Fowler chief privacy officer, the company said this week. His primary responsibility is defining and overseeing Marketfish's privacy policies.

Fowler will also work on the Seattle, Wash.-based company's strategies for improving email deliverability.

“We take privacy seriously,” said David Scott, founder and CEO of Marketfish. “We work with some of the best brands, and they want to make sure their data is protected and that our practices are up to date. We want to get that right in order to keep our clients and maintain strong relationships.”

Scott said Fowler will fully audit Marketfish's practices, including determining if the company's privacy policies are up to date. Fowler will report directly to Scott.

Fowler previously served as director of email strategy, deliverability and privacy compliance at Lyris, VP of global deliverability and privacy compliance at BlueHornet Networks and senior director of deliverability and privacy services at Yesmail.

Scott said he found Fowler through networking with the “top email and privacy experts” and “asking who would be great for the role.”

“Every single one of them said Fowler is one of the nation's experts on privacy and we'd be lucky to have him,” said Scott.

He added that Marketfish will “build a team underneath” Fowler to “help him and enhance his ability to be effective.” He did not say how big the unit will be.
