Mailers Group Urges Postal Commission

The Mailers Council, a group of businesses, nonprofits and mailing associations, is calling for a presidential commission on postal reform in a letter sent today to President Bush.

Though Congress is reviewing the USPS transformation plan, Mailers Council executive director Bob McLean said in the letter that "many issues may be left unresolved that must be addressed now. A presidential commission would study the postal service and recommend changes to cope with the current challenges to its core mission."

Meanwhile, Postmaster General John E. Potter is expected to discuss the transformation plan at a subcommittee hearing of the Senate Committee of Government Affairs today.
