Magazine for Latinos shutters

Tu Ciudad, a regional lifestyle magazine for affluent Latinos, will close after publishing its June/July issue.

 Publisher Emmis Communications has submitted a transfer request to the Audit Bureau of Circulations so that it can offer Los Angeles magazine as a replacement to subscribers. Subscribers who opt not to receive Los Angeles will get a refund.

Jaime Gamboa, founder and publisher of Tu Ciudad, blamed the current economy, along with other business issues at Emmis, for the shuttering. Emmis Communications released this statement: “Emmis Publishing has decided to suspend publication of Tu Ciudad Los Angeles because the magazine's financial performance did not meet the company's expectations.”

Tu Ciudad reached 85,000 households in Southern California through direct mailings. It was also sold at newsstands and publicly distributed for a total circulation of 115,000. The title was published 10 times a year.

According to its media kit, Tu Ciudad readers were, on average, 34 years old, with an average household income of $91,000, and were split 55%-45% female to male.

Emmis will continue to publish its other titles: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Country Sampler, Indianapolis Monthly, Los Angeles and Texas Monthly.
