Lord & Taylor, USPS Deliver Holiday Greetings

Lord & Taylor will get help during the holiday season delivering its message of cheer to shoppers from the U.S. Postal Service.

The multichannel marketer collaborated with the USPS to produce holiday-themed windows for Lord & Taylor's Fifth Avenue store in New York titled "Deliver the Joy!" Each of the six decorated windows depicts an historic scene inspired by a stamp from the postal service's archives featuring a mode of delivering the mail, including by horse in 1773 and stagecoach in 1840.

Lord & Taylor is also placing USPS merchandise in its holiday catalog and at its in-store holiday shops, including replicas of the Santa holiday ornament along with a boxed set of greeting cards and a silk scarf, both featuring images of the ornament.

The decision to work with the USPS resulted from the retailer's desire to bring in new merchandise this year.

"We liked it so much, and one thing led to another," said LaVelle Olexa, senior vice president of fashion merchandising at Lord & Taylor.

The windows will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. today after deputy postmaster general John M. Nolan reveals the official holiday ornament stamp for the first time.

Shoppers will be able to mail their holiday cards from a special postal station inside the Fifth Avenue store Nov. 17-20 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The mail will be postmarked "Deliver the Joy! Lord & Taylor Station." Plaster figures originally from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History depicting the attire worn by postal workers over the years will be on display in the station.
