LookSmart Taps 24/7 Exec as CEO

LookSmart named 24/7 Real Media executive David Hills as its new CEO yesterday.

Hills, who was president of media solutions at 24/7 Real Media, replaces Damian Smith, who served as interim CEO of the San Francisco search company since January. Hills' appointment takes effect Oct. 25.

24/7 Real Media said executives reporting to Hills now will report directly to CEO David Moore.

LookSmart has struggled to remake its business after losing its deal to provide paid listings to Microsoft's MSN a year ago. The loss of MSN was a major setback for LookSmart, which derived more than two-thirds of its sales from the deal. Smith replaced CEO Jason Kellerman in January.

Since then, LookSmart has shifted its business to focus on providing paid search listings for regional Internet service providers and meta-search engines.

Hills, 48, joined 24/7 Real Media in August 2003. Prior to that, he served as COO and president of sales for About Inc. Smith will leave LookSmart and return to Australia, where he used to head LookSmart's operations there, the company said.
