L.L. Bean to Open Second Mid-Atlantic Store

L.L. Bean is continuing its brick-and-mortar expansion with the May 4 opening of a new store at The Mall in Columbia, MD.

It is the second retail store the Freeport, ME-based cataloger has opened outside of Maine, and is part of a business plan to expand its presence in the Mid-Atlantic region. L.L. Bean opened a store last year at Tysons Corner Center in McLean, VA.

Besides apparel, the company will offer teaching programs as part of L.L. Bean's Outdoor Experiences in Maryland and Virginia. The workshops include kayaking, fly fishing and outdoor photography through its Outdoor Discovery Schools, with classes running from May to October. Prices range from $85 for a one-day sea-kayaking workshop to $295 for introduction to sea kayaking.

The cataloger also will partner with nonprofit conservation groups to conduct the programs.
