The technology already exists to automate many marketing processes, but some marketers just aren't taking advantage of it. For example, while it's possible to fairly easily send life-stage triggered automated campaigns, recent research from Yesmail found that only 21% of marketers are actually doing it.

Says Penney: "There's a long list of things marketers are trying to deal with and they just struggle getting the basics done."
