InfoGroup chair: No decision yet on company sale

InfoGroup Chairman Roger Siboni said in a November 1 statement that the company's management has "made no decision to sell the company." The press release came one day after the Omaha World-Herald reported that at least 33 potential bidders have expressed interest in the firm to its financial advisor, Evercore Partners.

With pressures from falling sales to rising postal rates forcing marketers to be more accurate with their direct mail programs, geographic data service providers are competing to offer the best ZIP code and carrier route data in ways mailers can easily apply to their campaigns. Two of these companies, MarketMaps and Maponics, have launched new ZIP code data suites this month to address marketers' targeting and compatibility needs.

InfoGroup scoops up Experian's business database

In a major move, two database industry competitors are now teaming up, DMNews has learned. InfoGroup has acquired Experian's National Business database and announced the deal to clients on July 7. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the partnership will involve Experian reselling InfoGroup's data.

The company will now be appending InfoUSA's database — which includes more than 14 million US businesses and 137 million consumers — to its products in an effort to improve the accuracy and depth of its local search offerings.
