Kicking off Cannes

I just arrived at Cannes and have a very optimistic feeling about the week. Like years past the energy at this event brings is overwhelming. It’s always exciting to see the world come together and celebrate the best of the best our industry has to offer. As one German delegate said while in line to register, “dis is going to be aaasome!” There were many other languages being spoken in line to get my bag of freebees. Fun stuff.

Many have been hard on the Festival this year with the economy being what it is. Even more reason to celebrate the kind of work that moves the needle for our clients. I, for one, am jacked about looking through the best work in the world for a week.

Tonight I hope to get some sleep and reset my body clock. It’s 6pm here, 11am back in Chicago. I’m blurry eyed and half awake. Tomorrow we’ll get our first look at the shortlist for Direct. Monday night is the awards ceremony. Can’t wait to see what this year brings for the direct world. If it’s anything like last year it will leave me jealous and motivated.
