Kenneth Cole, Liz Claiborne to Design Women's Line

Trendy retailer Kenneth Cole Productions Inc. partnered with Liz Claiborne Inc. this week to produce a line of Kenneth Cole women's clothes which will be promoted via its catalogs, Web site and stores worldwide in the fall of 2000.

"It's too early to say exactly what our marketing strategy will involve as it's a long time in the future," said Kristine Hoppman, a spokeswoman for Kenneth Cole, New York.

"But it will be very expansive and involve our Web site," she added.

Kenneth Cole, a rapidly emerging clothes company, is expected to make full use of Liz Claiborne's experience at developing and nurturing brands.

"Kenneth Cole is one of the most talented designers and marketers in the industry and he's building what we believe will be the next mega brand," said Paul Charron, chairman of Liz Claiborne.

As part of the deal, Liz Claiborne agreed to buy one million shares of Kenneth Cole at a price of $29 per share.
