John Ouren promoted to president at Goodmail

John Ouren, former senior vice president of sales and business development
at Goodmail Systems, has been promoted to president of the certified e-mail services firm. His duties will be to oversee the firm's worldwide market development. The announcement was made Tuesday.

With his new appointment, Mr.Ouren plans to expand the network of Internet service providers that supports CertifiedEmail beyond AOL and Yahoo. He also intends to launch international operations by opening a European office.

"Quite simply, we expect CertifiedEmail to have a more profound impact on high value business-to-consumer e-mail communications than any other e-mail innovation in 2007," he said. "We intend to build on our early strong foundation launching CertifiedEmail at AOL and Yahoo."

Mr. Ouren was formerly responsible for managing the company's sales, business development and strategic alliances. Prior to Goodmail, Ouren was senior vice president of sales, services and field operations at e-mail marketing firm Digital Impact, which was acquired by Acxiom Corp. last year.

Prior to his work with Digital Impact, Ouren was both a founding member of the e-commerce financial services practice at McKinsey and Company where he provided expertise to software companies and financial services firms worldwide.

As president of Goodmail, Mr. Ouren also plans to expand the base of senders using CertifiedEmail, especially among retailers, e-commerce companies, travel companies and financial institutions. In addition, he plans to launch new products specifically targeted to segments, helping them migrate transactional documents out of paper and online.

"Simultaneously, CertifiedEmail has an important message for online consumers, especially for those of direct marketers and financial institutions, and that is that they can now trust their e-mail and rely on its legitimacy," he said. "With spam and phishing on the increase in 2007, and ISPs responding more and more to block links and images as a countermeasure, a system like CertifiedEmail that specially marks the known good messages, while rendering links and images on default, becomes even more important to marketers."
