JC Penney Predicts 20% Drop in Catalog Sales

JC Penney expects catalog sales to fall about 20 percent in February, the company said yesterday.


The company also expects that comparable department store sales for the month will be flat, compared with a 12.5 percent increase last year. Sales through what the company considers the first week of its February reporting period were above plan.


The company said that its best-performing categories in the week included fine jewelry, home and children's.
