J. Jill Group Posts Increase in Fourth-Quarter Net Sales

The J. Jill Group Inc. yesterday reported net sales during the fourth quarter increased 3.8 percent to $91.7 million from $88.4 million in the previous year.


Operating income during the quarter totaled $12.4 million, or 13.5 percent of net sales, compared to $12 million, or 13.6 percent of net sales, in the prior year.


The fourth quarter and fiscal year ended Dec. 29.


The company recorded net income for the period of $7 million compared to $6.7 million during the fourth quarter of the prior year.


During the fiscal year, net sales increased 16.5 percent to $287 million compared to $246.3 million in the previous year. Operating income totaled $23.5 million, or 8.2 percent of net sales, compared to $23.4 million, or 9.5 percent of net sales, during the prior year.


Net income during the fiscal year amounted to $13.1 million compared to $12.8 million with a 20 percent increase in shares outstanding.


Within the direct channel, sales produced through the e-commerce site increased to $52.8 million, or 25 percent of total direct channel volume, compared to $35 million, or 16 percent a year ago.
