ISIPP offers free CAN-SPAM compliance reviews

On the heels of the FTC redefining four rules of the CAN-SPAM Act, the Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy is offering free CAN-SPAM compliance reviews to e-mail marketers.

“For many, if not most, e-mail senders, the requirements to comply with CAN-SPAM are confusing, if not impenetrable,” said Anne Mitchell, Esq., president and CEO of the Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy. “This is even more true now with the new rules that came into play this month.

EmailLabs and Habeas, two other e-mail delivery providers, also offer CAN-SPAM testing.

The main change in the CAN-SPAM Act is the redefining of four rules, which most of the industry accepted with open arms for the sake of clarification.

The FTC's updates to the 2005 Act include two revised definitions for sender and “person,” broadening recipients to include a variety of company entities; an allowance for PO boxes to satisfy the postal address requirement; and more specific guidelines surrounding opt-out procedures.

For the free test on ISIPP, e-mail senders can find the rules for CAN-SPAM compliance at www.isipp.com/can-spam.php and if the firm is concerned, then it can sign up to for a free CAN-SPAM compliance review at www.isipp.com/can-spam-review.php.

“By helping e-mail senders to determine if they are in compliance with CAN-SPAM, and identifying for them what they need to do if they are not, we are helping those in the e-mail sending industries to ensure that they are both within the law, and that their e-mail has crossed the first hurdle to assured e-mail delivery,” Mitchell added.
