Internet Technology Shifts Toward Consumer

United Parcel Service chairman/CEO Jim Kelly said Internet technology is shifting power from manufacturers, retailers and distributors to the business and residential consumer. In a speech before the Economic Club of Detroit, Kelly said direct Internet connections to manufacturers and retailers is killing the old push model of retailing and replacing it with the new pull model.


He said information, cash and choice will create a new age of consumerism allowing consumers to pull the products they need out of a company's inventory without having their preferences filtered through the agendas of companies.
