Internet Site Collects E-Mail Lingo

Web publisher and list owner List-Universe.com Corp., San Francisco, Monday debuted a site that will be a dictionary for the growing number of symbols and slang, or "emoticons," that Internet viewers use to lessen time spent on e-mail.

According to the company, emoticons are short sequences of letters and symbols used to express a thought or emotion. List-Universe.com also will offer its viewers a learning guide to the Web lingo.

The Web site encourages viewers to submit new symbols to the Web site's assortment when they join the mailing list for EmoticonUniverse.com, www.emoticonuniverse.com.
