Internet Outreach Goes to the Heart

Macerich malls raised thousands of dollars for the American Heart Association through an online auction at ebidsfromtheheart.org.

The exact amount of money has not been determined yet.

MissionFish, an Internet auction engine that turns donated goods into cash for nonprofits, hosted the site.

Macerich malls gathered almost 900 items for the auction, which began in February and concluded on Sunday. Items donated by individuals and businesses included leather jackets, diamond rings, vacations, celebrity memorabilia and even a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle.

The American Heart Association will receive 100 percent of the auction proceeds, said Susan Valentine, senior vice president of marketing at The Macerich Co., which owns and operates regional shopping malls.
