InfoUSA Starts '05 Acquisitions With E-Mail Firm

InfoUSA, Omaha, NE, announced its first acquisition of 2005 yesterday with the purchase of @Once, a retention-based e-mail technology firm, for an undisclosed sum.

The company plans to integrate @Once, Portland, OR, with its existing e-mail subsidiary Yesmail, based in San Carlos, CA.

InfoUSA bought Yesmail from CMGI Inc. in March 2003, and it made several acquisitions in 2004, including service bureau Triplex Direct Marketing, business data firm OneSource Information Services Inc. and list firm Edith Roman Associates Inc.

The newly acquired @Once will join infoUSA's Donnelley Group, which includes Donnelley Marketing, Walter Karl, Edith Roman, Yesmail, OneSource and Triplex.

The acquisition won't be the firm's last for this year, said infoUSA chairman/CEO Vin Gupta, who looks to continue building the Donnelley Group.

"This is the first one for '05," he said. "We're looking to grow in e-mail, list brokerage and management and anything else in our industry that fits in with infoUSA."

The e-mail marketing industry is "extremely fragmented and ripe for consolidation," Gupta said.
