Database marketing services provider infoUSA Inc. reported that its net sales rose 7 percent in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2001, though annual revenue fell.

InfoUSA's fourth-quarter net sales were $75.5 million, up from $70.4 million a year earlier. For the year, net sales fell to $288.7 million in 2001 from $305.7 million in 2000.

"Full year revenue slowed by 6 percent, a modest decline considering the impact of a weak economy, the events of Sept. 11 and the meltdown of the dot-com economy, which eliminated a significant portion of [our] Internet licensing revenues," said Vin Gupta, chairman/CEO of Omaha-based infoUSA.

InfoUSA also reported net income of $671,000 in the fourth quarter, compared with a net loss of $14.2 million a year earlier.

InfoUSA's fourth quarter and fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2001.

Gupta said conservative estimates show 2002 revenue of $300 million.

He said company objectives for the year include:

• Variable pricing for the company's database based on the value of each record.

• Reducing the debt and de-leverage.

• Acquisitions.
