InfoUSA Incorporates URLs Into Business Database
"Our first step was to get all the registered Web addresses across the U.S. and Canada," said Dan German, senior vice president, database group, infoUSA. "Then we verified whether or not each URL was actually in existence."
Another method by which infoUSA will continue to add URLs to the database is its telephone verification process. Each year, infoUSA makes more than 20 million calls to gather and verify information. The collection of Web addresses has been added to this procedure, German said.
The database is expected to grow by at least 60,000 new business Web site addresses per month, he added.
Meanwhile, the Web site data will be incorporated into infoUSA's traditional marketing products such as directories, prospect lists and credit reports, as well as into its reference and Web-enabled products, German said.
Customers of infoUSA are already using the Web addresses to identify prospects for offers of Internet applications and other Web-related products, German said. In the future, the file may be used to append Web site addresses to the house files of infoUSA customers, he added.
Many businesses have multiple Web addresses that are not always easy to figure out by trial and error, German noted. The database is designed to eliminate that guesswork for infoUSA business database users.
Of the 1.9 million Web addresses in the infoUSA database, 815,000 are unique businesses.
