InfoUSA Confirms Viability of Online List Sales

InfoUSA, Omaha, NE, has reported that revenue from online database sales in the first quarter more than doubled over the same period a year ago to $640,000. Since list sales represent approximately 75 percent of those sales, the numbers confirm the Internet as a viable medium for selling lists, according to sources.

"Our focus for the Web site is the small- and medium-sized business owner, and we've seen tremendous growth in traffic and usage of the site,'' said Dwight Gibson, manager of Internet business development.

Gibson said the majority of its 300,000 users are repeat buyers who make a list purchase at least once a month. Online purchases of $1,000 or more also are becoming more common, he said.

InfoUSA is looking to double its 1998 online database sales of $1.8 million this year by expanding its product offerings. Consumer lists and a customer analyzer, which creates lists that match a customer file submitted by a user, will be available at www.infousa.com in the next 60 days.

InfoUSA.com is one of a handful of Web sites that enable users to build and download lists by making selections from its own database or one licensed from a third-party data provider.
