Informix Names Y&R to $40M Account

Informix Corp., a software and online technology marketer, has named Young & Rubicam, San Francisco, its ad agency of record for a $40 million account.

The choice of Y&R was based on the agency's positioning experience with high-profile brands in the Internet and technology areas, said Informix, Menlo Park, CA.

Carat Freeman, San Francisco, will buy media and Brouillard, New York, will handle public relations.

Informix's range of services includes creating scalable transaction processing infrastructure for online businesses; personalized content management; integrated business intelligence; and multimedia offerings.

Y&R will help shape a new corporate positioning for Informix and create in the coming months a global ad campaign slated to run in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Part of Young & Rubicam Inc., the San Francisco office of Y&R has clients such as Sony ITA, Covad, Blue Martini, Adobe and Command Audio. Billings last year were more than $300 million.
