In the spirit of Halloween, Universal Studios theme parks in Hollywood and Florida have transformed the park's attractions into haunted houses featuring Freddy Krueger, Jason and the Texas Chainsaw family. Beyond scaring their clientele, Universal is using the Halloween Horror Nights event for e-mail newsletter registrations.

The Web site,, invites visitors to sign up for a newsletter with information about Halloween Horror Nights, as well as sweepstakes, special offers, new attractions and events at the park.

One such offer in the newsletter includes a partnership with Coca-Cola. Consumers that bring a UPC code from any Coca-Cola classic, Diet Coke or Coke Zero product to the ticket counter will receive $15 off of the admission fee.

And the e-mail acquisition doesn't stop there. If you go to the park and ride the new Simpsons ride, the photo taken during the ride is being used to gather opt-ins for e-mail. When a person leaves the ride, he or she is offered the chance to purchase a photo of themselves on the ride via e-mail. So, it's clear that Universal Studios is looking to scare up leads as well as fun with this week's festivities.
