ICTV and Cox Team up for I-TV

The interactive TV rollouts continued yesterday as ICTV, Los Gatos, CA, announced that it has struck a deal with Cox Communications Inc., the second-largest cable operator in the United States.

The ICTV rollout will take place in an undisclosed city in the United States in mid-2001. ICTV is a Web-on-TV experience that allows people to send e-mail, chat, surf the Web, play games and shop through their televisions.

ICTV announced a similar deal with Charter Communications Inc. for a Michigan rollout, and the nation's largest cable operator, AT&T, announced an I-TV deal last week with Liberate Technologies.

In both cases, it is expected that the cable operators will experiment with a variety of I-TV platforms before settling on one or more to be rolled out nationally.
