IAB: Q3 Online Ad Sales Top $2.4B

The Internet advertising industry continued its rapid expansion in the third quarter, generating more than $2.4 billion in ad sales during the period, new spending figures show.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau said reports by the top 15 Web publishers extrapolated by PricewaterhouseCoopers to encompass the entire industry indicated Internet ad revenue rose 35.3 percent from the year-ago period. The normally slow summer period recorded a 2.4 percent increase in ad sales.

For the first nine months of the year, PwC estimates online ad sales topped $7 billion, putting the industry on pace for a large annual gain on the $7.3 billion of ad revenue from all of 2003.

EMarketer said last week that it expects Internet ad spending should reach $9.4 billion for 2004, giving the market 28.8 percent growth from 2003.
