HP appoints Shirk SVP, worldwide marketing, for enterprise business
Hewlett-Packard named David Shirk SVP of worldwide marketing for its enterprise business division, effective April 5.
Shirk leads marketing initiatives for the $54 billion unit, which includes the company's portfolio of servers, storage, networking, software and services. Shirk reports to Thomas Hogan, EVP of enterprise sales, marketing at strategy at HP.
Shirk previously worked as EVP of global marketing and communications at Siemens, where he was responsible for digital marketing, industry and solution marketing, analyst relations and PR.
He has held various marketing executive positions in the software and technology industries, including EVP of global marketing at UGS, SVP of products, strategy and worldwide marketing at Vignette and SVP of product management and marketing at Novell. Shirk has also worked as VP of product marketing at Oracle and VP of worldwide sales and marketing at Macola.
HP also named Deborah Nelson, who had led marketing for HP's enterprise business unit, the group's chief of staff, effective April 5.
Last month, HP launched the “Let's Do Amazing” campaign, which was created by 72andSunny, featuring Rhys Darby of HBO's Flight of the Conchords, rapper and producer Dr. Dre and photographer Annie Leibowitz.
HP last month reported net revenue of $31.2 billion for the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year, which ended January 31. Revenue was up 8% from the prior year's $2.4 billion. First-quarter revenue was up 9% in the Americas, 1% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and 26% in the Asia-Pacific region.
HP declined further comment on the appointments, said Emily Neumann, company spokesperson.
