Haymarket buys DM News
Haymarket Media Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Britain's largest privately held magazine publisher, has acquired Courtenay Communications Corp.'s DM News, the leading U.S. trade publication covering direct, interactive and database marketing.
Based in New York, DM News publishes a weekly newspaper, the Essential Guides magazine supplements, and one daily and three weekly online newsletters, along with a complementing Web site at http://www.dmnews.com/ and a blog at blog.dmnews.com. Adrian Courtenay founded the publication in 1979.
"We are very excited to have made this acquisition and to be working with Adrian Courtenay, who knows this industry inside out," said William Pecover, chairman/CEO of Haymarket Media Inc., New York.
"DM News is a perfect fit not just next to our U.S. brands PRWeek and Medical Marketing & Media, but also alongside our direct and other marketing brands worldwide," he said.
The Jordan, Edmiston Group Inc., a New York media investment bank, handled the transaction.
Haymarket titles in Britain include Marketing Direct, Direct Response, Brand Republic, Campaign, Marketing and Media Week. The London-based company also publishes Media magazine in Asia.
In the U.S., Haymarket Media Inc. publishes a dozen titles covering the marketing, public relations, medical, elderly care and information securities businesses along with their online versions.
In addition to its offices in Britain and the U.S., Haymarket also has operations in India, Germany, China and Australia.
The Right Honorable Lord Heseltine owns Haymarket Media Group.
Subsequent to this deal, DM News founder Mr. Courtenay will continue to serve as a consultant to Haymarket for the balance of 2007.
"There are huge publishing opportunities in the direct, database and Internet marketing fields that DM News covers," Mr. Courtenay said. "Haymarket has the resources necessary to exploit these opportunities and take DM News to the next level. I'm confident that the DM News brand will be in good hands."
