Hacker Violates Credit Card Data Security at Bibliofind.com
Bibliofind.com, an online book-selling marketplace owned by Amazon.com, said it discovered that a hacker had compromised the security of credit card data used on its site from October 2000 to February of this year.Approximately 98,000 consumers were affected, according to reports. The site, which offers used, old and rare books, shut down Friday and removed consumer credit card data from its servers. Service was restored Monday.
The company said that it was in contact with federal law enforcement officials about the situation. It also said that it had alerted the necessary credit card companies to protect consumers who might be affected by the attack and contacted affected consumers about the security violation.
