Group 1, Language Analysis Systems Forge Alliance

Group 1 Software announced a distribution agreement yesterday with Language Analysis Systems, Herndon, VA, which produces name-recognition software.

Group 1 will act as a worldwide distributor of LAS' name-recognition technology, which includes tools for parsing, cleansing, matching and scoring names. Group 1, Lanham, MD, will make the technology available to its current and prospective customers.

The technology automates multicultural names in databases, text and voice. Group 1, which will incorporate LAS' technologies within its data quality suite, is expanding its focus into both global and security-related environments.

"The data quality market is turning into a global business," Jack Hermansen, CEO of LAS, said in a statement. "Whether you are a government agency, a global bank or have a multicultural U.S. customer base, you have to process and treat people's names accurately, regardless of the culture."
